2010 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

     
  The top two student-athletes from each of the six OHSAA athletic districts receive $2,000 scholarships provided by the OHSAA Foundation.  The following students were awarded Foundation scholarships at the June 18, 2010 banquet.  
     
 

 

CENTRAL DISTRICT

Leah Levey (Columbus Bexley)                                                                                                                           Leah earned a 3.65 GPA and is a graduate of Bexley High School. She lettered all four years in high school while a member of the 2009 State Champion Lady Golden Eagles soccer team. She was also recognized as a member of the All-League, All-District first- team, and All-State first-team her junior and senior year of soccer. Leah plans to attend Case Western Reserve University.

Krista Mathews (Baltimore Liberty Union)                                                                                                    A graduate of Liberty Union High School, Krista was ranked number two out of her class and achieved a 4.0 GPA. She lettered all years in cross country and basketball and finished with three letters in track & field.  Krista was named All-league and All-District first- team both her junior and senior year in basketball and was All-League in cross country for four years and a state qualifier in 2009. She plans to attend The Ohio State University this fall, with a career focus on medical dietetics.

EAST DISTRICT

Lindsey Arnold (Millersburg West Holmes)                                                                                                    Lindsey graduated from West Holmes High School with a 3.91 GPA. She received four varsity letters in basketball and volleyball, as well as two in track. The Lady Knights basketball program was district champs all four years she competed. Lindsey was All-League and All-District first-team in volleyball her senior year, as well as All-League in basketball. Lindsey plans to attend Otterbein University where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

 

 Taryn Deetz (Gnadenhutten Indian Valley)                                                                                                  A graduate of Indian Valley High School, Taryn achieved an overall GPA of 3.76 and earned four letters in both track & field and cross country, and one letter in basketball. She was named All-District first-team her senior year in basketball. Taryne was also a state qualifier in track & field each year she competed. She plans to attend Kent State Tuscarawas and study Early Childhood Education.

 

NORTHEAST DISTRICT

Stetson Thacker (Cuyahoga Heights)                                                                                                                Stetson finished at the top of his class at Cuyahoga Heights High School with a 4.34 GPA, while earning 10 varsity letters in baseball, basketball and soccer. A two-time all-league selection in the Chagrin Valley Conference in each of his three sports, Stetson also collected two all-district honors in soccer and one in baseball. Stetson will be attending Dennison University, where he plans to study English or biology.

Shane Williams (Bay Village Bay)                                                                                                                    A four-time letter winner on a soccer team that collected three regional championships, Shane graduated from Bay Village Bay High School with a 3.99 GPA. Shane earned all-league honors in the West Shore Conference and first-team all-district honors his senior year. Shane will attend Clemson University, where he plans to study chemistry medicine.

NORTHWEST DISTRICT

Lydia Etzler (Convoy Crestview)                                                                                                                                                      Lydia played volleyball and softball for Convoy Crestview, where she earned three varsity letters in both sports and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. Lydia was All-League each year of softball. She was named to the All-District first-team her sophomore, junior and senior year and was also All-State her sophomore and senior year. Lydia plans to head to Ball State to study speech-language pathology.

Amber Petersen (Findlay Liberty-Benton)                                                                                                                                  The Liberty-Benton graduate finished her high school academic career with a 3.67 GPA and is planning to attend The Ohio State University this fall, where she will study allied medical. Amber competed in basketball, track and soccer, where she earned four varsity letters in basketball, three in soccer and one in track. She was named All-League her senior year as the Lady Eagles became the 2010 Division II state basketball champions.

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT

 

Rachel Appleton (Portsmouth Notre Dame)
Rachel earned the top ranking in the graduating class of Notre Dame High School, where she achieved a 4.0 GPA. She participated in a total of five sports during her interscholastic athletic career, where she lettered four times in swimming & diving, cross country and tennis, as well as three times in track & field and basketball. Rachel was All-League each year in cross country and swimming & diving and in her senior year of track & field. She plans to study international relations at the College of Wooster.
 

Adam Fondale (New Lexington)
Ranked third in the New Lexington High School class of 2010, Adam finished with a 3.98 GPA. He lettered all four years in wrestling, three times in football and twice in baseball. He was also named All-League, All-District first-team and All-State for his senior year in football. Adam was named All-League and reached the state tournament in wrestling in 2010. He plans to attend Columbia University to study pre-law/political science.

 

SOUTHWEST DISTRICT

 

Ryan Christmann (New Carlisle Tecumseh)
Ryan finished his interscholastic academic career with a 4.0 GPA and graduated from Tecumseh High School ranked number one in his class. Football, basketball and baseball were Ryan’s sports of choice, where he picked up three letters in football and two in basketball and baseball. He was All-League and All-District first-team in football and helped lead the Arrows to the regional semifinals. He plans to attend Walsh University, where he will study accounting.
 

Elisabeth Wheeler (Brookville)
Elisabeth was ranked number one in the Brookville High School graduating class and earned a 4.0 GPA. She received four varsity letters in volleyball and track and also picked up three letters in basketball. Elisabeth was named All-League in volleyball and helped lead the Lady Blue Devils to the district finals in basketball. She also finished in the top four in the 2010 State Track & Field Tournament. She plans to attend Miami University to study civil engineering.
