2011 Minority Scholarship Recipients

     
  The OHSAA Foundation provides six $1,000 minority scholarships for a student-athlete from each athletic district.  The following students were awarded minority scholarships at the June 17, 2011 banquet.  
     
 

 

CENTRAL DISTRICT

Channing McNeal (Columbus St. Francis De Sales)

Channing graduated with a 3.98 GPA and was a two-year varsity letter-winner in both football and track and field. In football, Channing helped lead his team to a district championship and regional finals appearance in his sophomore and junior seasons, winning the regional championship during his junior season. He plans to attend Cornell University to study International Labor Relations.


 

EAST DISTRICT

    

Ashley Weaver (Berlin Hiland)

Ashley graduated ranked fourth in her class with a 3.98 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in soccer and two-year letter-winner in basketball and softball. She also lettered in track and field once. She earned all-league and first-team all-district recognition in soccer. Ashley plans to attend Malone University to study Early Childhood Education.
 

NORTHEAST DISTRICT

Gia Velasquez (Canfield)

Graduating number one in her class, Gia earned a 4.0 GPA and was a four-year letter-winner for the swimming and diving team, earning all-league honors every year. As a junior, she was a qualifier for the state swimming and diving tournament. Gia plans to attend Yale University to study History and Chemistry.


 

NORTHWEST DISTRICT

Miranda Cochran (North Central)

Ranking third in her class, Miranda graduated with a 3.81 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in softball and a two-year varsity letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. She earned all-league and all-district honors in softball. Miranda plans to attend The Ohio State University to study Biology with a Pre-Medical focus.


 

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT

Travis Elliott (Ironton)

Travis graduated ranked 12th in his class with a GPA of 3.80 and was a three-year varsity letter-winner in basketball, while lettering once in football, baseball and track and field. He earned all-league and first-team all-district honors in basketball. Travis plans to attend Rio Grande University to study Education.
