2011 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

     
  The top two student-athletes from each of the six OHSAA athletic districts receive $2,000 scholarships provided by the OHSAA Foundation.  The following students were awarded Foundation scholarships at the June 17, 2011 banquet.  
     
 

 

CENTRAL DISTRICT

Brady Hutchins (Canal Winchester)

Brady graduated as valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in wrestling and a two-year letter-winner in golf. In wrestling, Brady earned all-league honors and was a state qualifier in his sophomore, junior and senior years. He plans to attend Ohio University to study Computer Science and Meteorology. 

Allyssa Neer (Galion Northmor)

Allyssa graduated with a 3.63 GPA, ranked seventh in her class, and earned four varsity letters in cross country and track and field. She received all-league honors in cross country all four years, and was also a four-time state qualifier in cross country. Allyssa turned in all-league performances in track and field, also qualifying for the state track meet. Allyssa plans to attend Malone University to study Psychology.

EAST DISTRICT

Alexa Abrams (Buckeye Trail)

Alexa graduated with a 3.65 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in volleyball, basketball and softball. She earned all-league and first-team all-district honors three times in all three sports, while being recognized on the all-state team twice in volleyball and once in softball. She earned volleyball all-league and first-team all-district honors twice. Alexa plans to attend Muskingum University to study Early Childhood Education.

Ralph Pierro (Steubenville)

Ralph graduated with a 3.74 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in baseball and earned three varsity letters in football and basketball. He made all-league twice in football and baseball, as well as receiving first-team all-district honors in football and baseball. He also earned all-state recognition in baseball. Ralph is planning to attend Daytona State College.

NORTHEAST DISTRICT

Kelsey Dropsey (Jeromesville Hillsdale)

Kelsey graduated with a 3.6 GPA and lettered in soccer, basketball and softball all four years. In soccer she was voted all-league and all-district three years and all-state twice. Kelsey was also voted all-league and all-district in basketball her senior year. As a junior she helped lead Hillsdale to the Division III softball state championship. Kelsey plans to attend Ashland University to study Criminal Justice.

Sydney Kirby (Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown)

Sydney graduated with a 3.85 GPA and was a four-year letter-winner in field hockey and a letter-winner in golf her senior year. Sydney was voted all-league, all-district, and all-state every year while playing field hockey, and helped lead Hathaway Brown to a state title her sophomore year. In golf she was voted all-league and finished eighth in the state tournament to help Hathaway Brown win the team title. Sydney plans to attend Princeton University to study Pre-Med and Spanish.

NORTHWEST DISTRICT

Christopher Pohlman (Delphos St. John’s)

Christopher graduated with a 3.50 GPA and was a three-year varsity letter-winner in football and a four-year letter-winner in baseball. He earned all-league honors in football twice, and received first-team all-district honors and all-state honors three times. He helped guide the football team to two state championships. Christopher plans to attend Bowling Green State University to study Engineering Technologies.

Kelly Schlarman (Marion Local)

Kelly graduated ranked 15th in her class with a 3.76 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in volleyball and two-year letter-winner in basketball. She earned all-league honors in both sports, and helped guide the volleyball team to three state championships. Kelly plans to attend the University of Dayton to study Pre-Dentistry.

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT

Molly Knapp (Wheelersburg)

Graduating number-one in her class Molly earned a 4.0 GPA and was a four-year letter winner in volleyball, basketball and softball, while lettering once in tennis. She helped lead the volleyball team to a district championship her junior year and was all-league twice and all-district once. In basketball, Molly earned all-league honors twice, and was a part of two regional finals teams in softball. Molly plans to attend the University of Notre Dame to study Pre-Law and Business.

Connor Scott (South Webster)
Connor graduated with a 4.0 GPA and lettered in soccer and basketball all four years and two years in track and field. In soccer, Connor was all-league every season, all-district three times, and all-state his junior and senior year, while leading his team to the regional finals as a junior. In basketball he was named all-league and all-district his junior and senior year, helping lead his team to a district championship. Connor plans to attend Cedarville University to study Sports Administration.
 

SOUTHWEST DISTRICT

Jessica Thobe (Sidney Lehman Catholic)

Jessica graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was a four-year letter-winner in volleyball while lettering in basketball and softball three years. In volleyball she was voted all-district all four years and all-state three years. She helped lead her team to the regional finals three times, winning the Division IV state volleyball championship her senior year. Jessica plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study Pharmacy.

Kelly Westerkamp (Kettering Archbishop Alter)

Kelly graduated with a 3.69 GPA and was a four-year varsity letter-winner in volleyball and a three-year letter-winner in basketball. In volleyball she was voted all-league and all-district junior and senior years, while being voted all-state her senior year. She helped lead Alter to the regional finals three times, winning twice. In basketball she was a part of three district championship and two regional championship teams. Kelly plans to attend Xavier University to study Nursing.
